Fed: Lives of Aboriginal women 14 years longer
A new report on indigenous health shows Aboriginal women are now living 14 years longer
than those born four decades ago.
A drop in infant mortality .. better access in health care and more community-controlled
organisations .. are seen as the major driving forces behind the improvements.
The Northern Territory study .. published today in the Australian and New Zealand Journal
of Public Health .. analyses changes in life expectancy of indigenous people between 1967
and 2004.
It found that territory men born at the end of the period could expect to live eight
years longer than those born at the beginning.
For women .. this figure stretched to 14 years.
